Blueberry Muffins From Scratch

Yummm!!

Kate and I walked up the farmers market, with Jaime and Alex too, today and got some Michigan Blueberries. Fresh blueberry muffins sounded fun. I whipped up a batch while Kate took her nap, which was way to short today. So easy to make. Box blueberry muffins do not compare! I made two batches. The first batch is basic and I drizzled some powder sugar glaze (with some fresh lemon squeezed in). The second batch has a cinnamon crumble on top. Holy cow crumble topping! So awesome. The first batch can't compete with crumble topping. I got the recipe off All Recipes.

Just a little glazed over

All the crumble goodness!

Hot! Don't Touch!

INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 egg
1/3 cup milk
1 cup fresh blueberries
1/2 cup white sugar
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup butter, cubed
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease muffin cups or line with muffin liners.
Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, 3/4 cup sugar, salt and baking powder. Place vegetable oil into a 1 cup measuring cup; add the egg and enough milk to fill the cup. Mix this with flour mixture. Fold in blueberries. Fill muffin cups right to the top, and sprinkle with crumb topping mixture.
To Make Crumb Topping: Mix together 1/2 cup sugar, 1/3 cup flour, 1/4 cup butter, and 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon. Mix with fork, and sprinkle over muffins before baking.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until done.

So Much Handmade!

I've discovered Etsy shops in the last month. Oh what fun! There are so many inspiring crafters/artists. I've made a few purchases and there are many more I'd like to make. I've gotten many good ideas of things I'd like to make now. So many ideas for making skirts and dresses for Kate. Maybe not this year, but next year when she's walking I can't wait to make her a "pillow case" dress and some twirly skirts like these.

Auty Dress on Etsy Sew Cutes Shop. She has so many great fabrics to choose from. I need to buy one and then make many!

Twirl Skirt. Treasures for Tots has a tutorial on how to make this along with some other great ideas.

Skirt Round-up here!

I bought this custom bowl from Elm Studios on Etsy. They are so unique and what fun gifts they make.

Other Etsy Favs
Danbury Lane I havnen't decided what tutu to buy for Kate yet.

Golden Shop Custom made bibs and party hats. I'm planning on this for Kate's first birthday.

Zozo Bug Baby This shop is on vacation until August but they have great handmade clothes!

Instant Craft Gratification

Inspired by and for new mom Julie.

I love quick crafts. There is such a sense of satisfaction when creating something quickly. This is why I probably can't get into quilting-it just takes too long for me.

These rice packs are easily heated up in the microwave for 2 minutes and then applied to sore spots. Great for new mommas with engorgement/blocked ducts. You can also put them in the freezer and use on other booboos. :)

Muddy Buddy

The race was yesterday and it was so much fun! I never really trained for it and got into good shape so I was pretty slow. I didn't care though, I did it for fun. Good muddy fun!

Wedding Cake Sugar Cookie

I spent the better part of a day making these fun cookies. Some are for Erin's shower and some I will freeze for the wedding in August. I'm making a cookie dessert buffet for the occassion. These took a lot of time, but I had a lot of fun doing them.

Kate Update

3 months old and so much fun! Kate is a talker. I think she realized that she can make noise, she often babbles, sings, yells, and laughs. Her smiles and laughter are the best. Ryan is really good at getting her going. The jumperoo is a fub toy for her to play in. The first few times she didn't really get it, but know shes a jumping pro. She giggles and smiles at all the toys but hasn't figured out how to use her hands and play with them. We've been practicing grabbing objects. I can put them in her hand and she'll grasp and shake it. We're also working on rolling over and siiting (in the bumbo seat). Kate has really strong legs. She enjoys standing up in our laps when being held. We had to buy a different baby bath tub because her liitle legs would kick half the water out of the old one creating a big mess. The new one is deeper and overall much better (its a Primo). As far aas temperment, she only fusses now when she really needs something. The days of frequent needless fussing are hopefully behind us. And a big hit with me is that she will fall asleep on her own now. I'm trying to get her sleeping habits on more of a routine schedule. One nap a day is now taken in her crib and she'll fall asleep on her own after I put her down. I'm trying to get her used to the crib so I can do the night time transition there. Ryan and I are ready to give her the boot from our bedroom. :)

4th of July Weekend

We took a trip to Traverse City for the long weekend. Kate loved all the new surroundings and being a part of the Cherry Festival action. We stayed with our friend Nate and Courtney who have a little boy, Jack, who was born a week after Kate. Possible future boyfriend? :) heehee.
First stop the fire station to visit Matt Mosher.

So many levers which one shall I pull?

Kate loves hanging out with Kevin.

We spent Saturday at the beach and watched the airshow. Kate didn't mind the ear phones at all.

Making the long drive home. Kate is so good in the car. She usually sleeps, but lately enjoys smiling and talking to some of the toys I have dangeling in her view.
