Health News

If you've never browsed the health news section on yahoo, than you're in for a treat. Here are just some of the latest headlines in health news.

Turning Your Clock Back Sunday May Help Your Heart
E-Cards May Aid in STD Notification
Eating Fast Until Full Triples Overweight Risk
Less Exposure to Violent Media Makes Youths Less Aggressive
Hot Flashes, Night Sweats a Good Sign For Breast Cancer Patients
Doorknobs and TV Remotes are Germ Hotbeds.

So I'm thinking, seriously this is news? I said "duh" in my mind a half dozen times. I especially like the E-Card STD notification idea. Next time that Hallmark E-card hits your inbox you might panic.

On the pregnancy side of news, because that's where my interest mainly lies since my days of random sex are over, I found more "evidence" that breastfeeding is more of a good idea. Breast-Fed Baby May Mean Better Behaved Child. Now if anyone knew me as a child, I was no angel. I can now attribute this to my mother not breast feeding me. So really mom, you have no one to blame now but yourself. :) If there is any scientific basing to this "news," it might just be enough to convince me. Not that there aren't many other wonderful benefits, but when you work with middle schoolers all day long and their long list of behavioral "issues" you will understand my fear. So I'll be creating a breast-fed angel.

Good So Far

So far pregnancy has been good to me. No sickness in the first trimester, no extreme weight gain ( I can still wear my regular clothes), I have a good reason to go to bed as early as I want, and Ryan has been very agreeable. Lately my energy has come back. I've been getting many more things accomplished lately. I've started my Christmas crafts and I'm planning the cookie madness to start in the next few weeks. A major point of excitement since I've started my second trimester has been sleeping through the night without having to get up and use the restroom. I don't know why, but the bathroom seems so far away at 2 am. The only things nagging me now is my sore back and the strange smell in the basement.

I've been pondering the idea of taking a pregnancy photo. I'm not sure how I feel about having evidence of how big I get. Maybe someday I'll want to look back on it....... I just don't know? I'm starting to get a pregnant stomach. But I'm still in that stage of "Is she just fat," or "She could be pregnant?" I think I'll be more confident in my growing size once my stomach is indiscernible pregnant. It's not cute right now. Don't ask to touch it either. That's just weird to me.

My next check up is next Friday. Just the routine things. After that, I'm looking forward to the ultrasound on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. That will be cool. I'll be 22 weeks at that point so I'm hoping to see a lot.

Fall Baking

I spent most of yesterday either baking or trying to bake. Trying to bake, because it took me over two hours to purchase all of the necessary supplies. I could not find my fall cookie cutters, so I drove around to numerous stores before finding what I needed. This is one of the perks living in the city offers. When you need something you generally don't have to travel too far to find it.

I was successful in completing 3 recipes. 2 of which were new that I had never tried. Most of them are for a cookie order that I have this weekend. But I will also bring a platter to share with some friends at school and in Dryden. I think later this week I'll be doing 2 more recipes to complete the order. Pumpkin cookies and I'm not sure what else..... This is just a warm up for the Christmas cookies that I will be starting mid November. I'm thinking I might need a second freezer this year.

The spider cookies came out really cute! I love the little spider guy that I created out of an M&M. the candy corn cookies are always a pain, but yummy. The leaf cookies turned out beautiful and one recipe made about 5 dozen.
