Cupcake Practice

Working on some different cupcake ideas. These ones are a white mix (just to save time since its experimentation with color). I separated the batter into 4 bowls and tinted electric pink, light pink, yellow, and light orange ( I was going for peach). I'm tentatively thinking that these are the colors I'd like to use for Kate's 1st birthday party. I added the colored batter alternately into the cupcake liners. I'm happy with the colors, I think they work well. They baked up nice and didn't change too much. For the frosting I cheated and used the can stuff. I wanted to do one big swirl, but I don't have a tip big enough to give me the look I wanted. So I did lots of little swirls. I think they came out whimsical and fun. I sprinkled on some disco dust, which is hard to see in the pictures. I love disco dust! I'm happy with the results. I think I'll bring them into work tomorrow. Now I need to experiment next time with non store bought mixes.

A few I dipped in sparkle sugar and jimmies

The batter before baking.

After baking.

Fun on the inside!

I sprinkled a few with sanding sugar, but I don't like it as much as with the jimmies and disco dust. The center cupcake was my attempt at one big swirl.

I bought a giant cupcake pan last weekend. I had to try it out for fun. It came out ok, not too great. I made homeade frosting, which I wasn't happy with. I need to find a good reliable frosting recipe. Much experimentation is needed.
